Busan is South Korea’s second city and the country’s main beach destination. If you’re planning a trip to Korea, Busan is a must see on your travel itinerary. From colourful villages and ancient temples to sandy beaches and fresh seafood markets, the city has something for everyone. Here are the must see Busan attractions you shouldn’t miss !

Gamcheon Village – 부산 감천문화마을

The most famous attraction in Busan (and also my personal favourite) is Gamcheon Village. Built on a hillside in the 1950s to house people after the Korean War, it has now been transformed into a colourful cultural spot. In 2009 a government project rejuvenated the neighbourhood, and today you’ll find murals, art galleries, and sculptures hidden along the narrow streets.

Your visit usually begins at the top of the hill, where the tourist centre and main shops are located. The shops sell a wide range of souvenirs, so it’s easy to pick something up for friends and family.

💡 Tip: At the tourist centre you can pick up a free map with spaces for stamps. Hunt around the village to collect them all !

Beomeo-sa Temple – 범어사

Hidden away in the foothills of Geumjeongsan Mountain, Beomeosa Temple is a beautiful Buddhist temple dating back to the Silla dynasty. You can reach it by metro and bus, followed by a gentle walk through a scenic forest path. After crossing a small river, the path leads you into the temple grounds, which feel calm and refreshing after the bustle of the city.

Beomeosa is less crowded than temples in the city centre, making the experience all the more peaceful. The quiet atmosphere, colourful lanterns, and mountain setting make this one of the must see Busan spots for culture and nature together.

Gwangalli Beach – 광안리해수욕장

Busan has two main beaches in the city, and everyone tends to have a favourite. For me, it’s Gwangalli Beach. Facing Gwangan Bridge, which lights up at night, the view is spectacular. In the evening, the neighbourhood comes alive with restaurants and bars welcoming both locals and tourists, creating a lively, friendly vibe.

⚠️ Heads up: Most Koreans avoid sunbathing or swimming without a T-shirt for sun protection. Don’t be surprised if the beach feels more like a place to stroll and relax than a spot for sunbathing.

Haeundae Beach – 해운대해수욕장

Haeundae Beach offers a complete different atmosphere compared to Gwangalli. The sand stretches wider, the buildings sit further back, and it feels less busy despite being one of the most famous beaches in Korea. It’s perfect for a long seaside walk, with the skyline reminding you that you’re still very much in the city !

Nearby, you’ll find Busan X the Sky, a popular observatory in one of the surrounding towers. I haven’t tried it yet, so I’ll let you decide if it’s worth the visit !

In the evenings, Gunam-ro Street fills with bright lights, food stalls, and shops – the perfect place to enjoy street food or a bit of late-night shopping.

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple – 해동용궁사

Perched on the coastline, Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is one of the most picturesque temples in Korea. As you descend the stone steps, the temple reveals itself against the crashing waves. A truly breathtaking view.

Originally built in 1376, the temple combines sea views with intricate golden statues and zodiac animal carvings. Visitors often leave written wishes on boards in the hope they come true. My favourite part ? A double golden pig statue symbolising wealth – cute and meaningful!

Jagalchi Market – 자갈치시장

No trip to Busan is complete without visiting Jagalchi Market, the largest fish market in South Korea. Inside, you’ll find rows of tanks filled with live fish and seafood waiting to be prepared fresh for customers – quite different to markets where produce is displayed on ice.

You can also eat freshly cooked seafood at the market, making it an authentic local experience. Don’t forget to head outside for a sea view and a photo with the “I ❤️ Jagalchi” sign!

Busan Tower- 부산타워

Located in Yongdusan Park, Busan Tower rises 120 metres above the city. The walk up through the park is pleasant, and from the top you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of the coastline, beaches, and mountains.

Do check the weather before buying tickets to make sure you’ll get a clear view. The tower is also family-friendly, with interactive decorations and playful activities along the way.

Haeundae Blueline park Sky Capsule & Beach Train

The colourful Haeundae Sky Capsules have become an Instagram favourite, with their pastel shades and ocean views. I didn’t manage to try them, but I did take the Beach Train, which offers the same scenic ride along the coast.

The journey is relaxing and the views are stunning – well worth it if you want a different way to enjoy Busan’s shoreline. And before you leave, don’t miss the gift shop at the exit – it’s surprisingly good !

Hope you enjoy Busan as much as I did ! Now that you know all the must see Busan spots, check out my article on Jeju !
